Abstract

Acquisition of precise and reliable velocity information and position accuracy are important for many GNSS-based studies. For this reason, it is necessary to determine the optimum time required for the availability of point velocities. The 24-hour RINEX data of the KAMN station, one of the CORS-TR stations in the province of Karaman, was evaluated based on 8 IGS stations by the Bernese v5.2 scientific GNSS software developed by the Swiss University of Bern. Karaman is one of the cities with the lowest earthquake risk, located in the south of the Central Anatolia Region. The interval of 01-18 days of January and June of each year has been selected between 2016-2019 for the KAMN CORS-TR Station. 14 different combinations were created by dividing into consecutive 5-day combinations (1-5, 2-6, 3-7,..., 14-18) starting from January 1, 2016. By using 30 sec RINEX data of KAMN station, velocity components were obtained for ITRF96 2005.00 epoch in 7 different periods of 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 and 42 months. Obtained velocity components were compared with the current velocity components published by TKGM, and their significance was examined by performing a statistical test. As a result of the statistical test, it was seen that the results for cartesian coordinate velocities of VX and VY were compatible with the known velocities from the 30 months (2.5 years) period, and the speeds calculated from the period of 36 months (3 years) for VZ.As the time increases, the accuracy of the velocities obtained also increases. Therefore, time is very important and it has been concluded that a data length of at least 36 months (3-years) is needed while obtaining velocity components in order to make interpretations in geodetic studies.
