Abstract

As it is known, istiqbāl al-qibla is one of the conditions of the prayer. In the 144th verse of al-Baqarah, Allah made turning to the qibla obligatory while praying by There are three factors that determine the essence of turning to the qibla in the mentioned verse: Face, Masjid al-Ḥarām and shaṭr. When the fiqh literature is examined, it will be seen that different opinions have emerged on what is meant by each of these, and that the essence of istiqbāl al-qibla differs by depending on these different opinions. Also, although it is not mentioned separately in the verse; the place where the prayer is located, the place where the Masjid al-Haram is located, and their position of facing each other have a critical importance in the matter of the qibla. Especially nowadays that the earth is globally recognized as being a sphere, we are of the opinion that it should be more carefully considered on this fact. Because, in general and as far as we can see, in the classical period the mentioned verse is understood, commented based on the flatness of the Earth and so no problems have been seen in this regard. In modern times, the idea that the earth is spherical has been generally accepted among Muslims, but the problems that emerged from this idea have not been dwelled on sufficiently. The first problem there arises regarding the qibla with the spherical world model is that it becomes possible to turn towards Ka´bah through more than one route and that it becomes impossible to decrease the number of qibla below two no matter whatever is done. The second problem is the inability to turn towards Ka´bah or qibla in real terms; In a global world model, it is possible to turn towards Ka´bah or qibla only on a hemisphere where the Ka´bah is located at the center of the same no matter how comprehensively the material evidences are interpreted. In this article, it will be focused on the possibility and arbitrariness of turning to the qibla on a sphere Earth.

Özet

Bilindiği üzere, istikbâl-i kıble namazın şartlarından biridir. Allah Teâlâ Bakarasûresinin 144. Zikredilen âyette kıbleye yönelmeninmahiyetini belirleyen üç unsur vardır: Yüz, Mescid-i Haram ve şatr.
