Reading The Emergence of Turkish Nation-State Through the Concept of Habitus

Türkiye'de Ulus-Devlet Formasyonunun Ortaya Çıkış Sürecini Habitus Kavramı Üzerinden Okumak

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the emergence of the nation-state in Turkey and read this process through Pierre Bourdieu and Norbert Elias' concept of habitus. In so doing, first of all, the concept of habitus will be explored. The debates concern-ing the process of the emergence of the nation-state in Turkey and whether the concept of habitus is fruitful will also be dis-cussed. This study underlines the theoretical opportunities of the concept of habitus, particularly, from the angle of the de-bates concerning the emergence of the Turkish nation-state and Turkish nationalism. On this axis, this study shows that there is a clear link between Turkish nation-state formation and the Turkish national habitus.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı ulus-devlet formasyonunun, Türkiye'deki oluşum serüvenini kısaca ele almak ve bu süreci Pierre Bourdieu ve Norbert Elias'ın habitus kavramsallaştırmaları üzerinden okumaya çalışmaktır. Bunun için öncelikle habitus kavramı ele alınacak, ardından Türkiye'de ulus-devlet formasyonunun ortaya çıkış sürecine ilişkin tartışmalar ile birlikte kavramın öznel tarihimiz açısından işlevselliği tartışılacaktır. Çalışmada habitus kavramının Türk ulus-devlet formasyonun ortaya çıkış süreci ve Türk milliyetçiliği ile ilgili tartışmalarda sağlayabileceği teorik imkanlara işaret edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu minvalde Türk ulus-devlet formasyonu ile Türk ulusal habitusu arasında belirgin bir bağ olduğu gösterilmiştir.
