Abstract

Cengiz Aytmatov, one of the most influential writers of the 20th century, wrote his novels based on his experiences of a colonized world - an experience from which a large part of the world population suffered for centuries. Especially his novel titled A Day Lasts Longer More Than a Hunderd Years focuses on the culture of a colonized people by drawing attention to the daily life of the people of a small village and ex- plains the catastrophe that these local people experience as a result of the assimilation policies of the colonizers. The theory of postcolonialism, which was developed in the second half of the 20th century, is an effective tool to reexamine the history, culture and literature of such colonized countries. This article analyzes A Day Lasts Longer Than a Century in the light of postcolonial theory.
