The role of Color Doppler US in the evaluation of acute scrotal disease

Abstract
Color doppler US was performed to twenty-three patients with acute scrotal discomfort such as pain and swelling in whom testi-cular ischemia from torsion or epididimitis and/or orchitis was clinically suspected. The results were compared with final diagno¬sis established by means of surgery and clinical follow-up. Eight patients underwent surgical exploration for testicular torsion and ischemia diagnosed with color Doppler US (% 100 operative confirmation). Findings from clinical follow-up in the remaining 15 patients were consistent with epididymitis and/or orchitis. Color Doppler US is cheap, easy, rapid and noninvasive method in assesing perfusion of the testis in the acute scrotal pathologi¬es. Ourresults show that Color Doppler US allows a highly accurate distinction of testicular ischemia and scrotal inflammation.

Akut skrotal ağrı ve şişlik yakınması ile başvuran, testiküler iskemi veya epididimit ve/veya orşit düşünülen 23 hastaya renkli Doppler Ultrasonografik (US) inceleme gerçekleştirildi. Radyolojik bulgular ile cerrahi veya. klinik izlem sonucu elde edilen ke¬sin tanılar karşılaştırıldı. Renkli Doppler US inceleme ile testis torsiyonu ve iskemi tanısı alan 8 hastada cerrahi sonuçlar ile rad¬yolojik bulgular % 100 uyumlu idi. US bulguları ile epididimit ve/veya orşit düşünülen 15 hastada ise sonuçlar klinik izlem ile doğrulandı. Renkli Doppler US, akut skrotal patolojilerde testisin vaskülaritesini değerlendirmede kullanılan ucuz, kolay, hızlı ve noninvazif bir yöntemdir. Sonuçlarımız renkli Doppler US incelemenin testiküler iskemi ve inflamasyon gibi patolojilerin ayırıcı tanısını yüksek doğruluk oranlarında yapabildiğini vurgulamaktadır.
