Cone and seed characteristics of clician fir (Abies clicica carr.)

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine seed and cone characteristics of cilician fir (Abies cilidca Carr.) and it's subspecies A. cilidca subsp. isaurica endemic to Turkey. Ten natural provenances were sampled from pure stands in tree altitude zones (1000 m-1250 m, 1250 m -1500 m and over 1500 m) in the natural distribution area of cilician fir in two seed-years (1993 and 1996) in southern Turkey. From each sample site phenotypicaly best 13 seed trees were chosen and thirteen cones were collected from each tree. Various cone and seed traits were observed and measured. In addition to some morphological characteristics some phenological properties of the species were observed. There were significant differences among geographical regions, altitudes and subspecies for cone height, cone width, cone weight and seed height, seed width, seed thickness, and 1000 seed weight.

Bu çalışmada, bir alttürü ile endemik olan Toros göknannın (Abies cilidca Carr.) kozalak ve tohum özelliklerinin belirlenmesi ve bunun yıllara göre değişiminin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Türün doğal yayılış alanında saf Toros göknan meşcereleri göz önüne alınarak, üç farklı yükselti kademesinden (1000 m-1250 m, 1250 m-1500 m, ,1500 m
