Abstract
The main objective of this study was to determine the proper improving methods of rangelandas in Burdur-Kemer region. Akpinar plateau located out of forest areas was chosen for the experiment. Four treatments were used in the experimental area; • open grazing as control (A), • protection + fertilization + weed control (B), • cultivation + seeding with mixed of dominant- native species which .were exist in the rangeland + fertilization + weed control (C), and • cultivation + 'seeding with mixed of dominant native species of the rangeland and cultivated species which were adaptable to this area + fertilization + weed control (D). • According to the first vegetation inventory 18.8 % of the experimental areas was covered with vegetation. In contrast to percentage of inedible vegetation by animals was likely high. Results of statistical analyses showed that, treatment D gave 33.46 and 2.93 times higher fresh weight of vegetation when compared to the treatments A and B, respectively. Moreover, treatment B had 11.4 times higher fresh weight of vegetation than treatment A. Fresh weight of vegetation were 874.19 kg/da and 767.25 kg/da in seeding plots in treatment D and C. In treatment B and A, the fresh weight of vegetation was 297.88kg/da and 26.13 kg/da. Dry weight of vegetation was 288.8, 276, 160.8 and 12.7 kg/da in treatments D, C, B and A, respectively. The percentage of covered area with vegetation was increased from 18.8 % to 40.5 % in the protected plot (B).According to the last vegetation inventory, percentages of leguminosae and other species were 88.79 %, 59.3 %, 5.09 %, and 36.58 % in D, C, B and A respectively. Percentages of graminea were 5.4 %, 40.7 %, 94.91 % and 63.58 % in order. This study showed that, improving the rangelands could be difficult in dry lands where less and irregular rainfall occurs.
