Teacher Education Systems of Australia, Singapore, and South Korea: A Case-Oriented Comparative Study

Abstract
The quality of teachers is one of the critical factors affecting student growth. Besides, researchers found strong relations betweenperformance of teachers and human capital. This critical role of teachers results in placing more importance on teacher education.Through a comparative case-oriented study design, teacher education systems of three countries are aimed to be presented withinthis paper: South Korea, Australia, and Singapore. The achievements of the students in international exams are very high, andteachers have prestigious statues in those countries. This study aims to describe the education systems, teacher education systems,and professional development of teachers in these three countries and examine the reasons underlying their efficient models andsuccesses.

Öğretmen kalitesi, öğrenci gelişimini etkileyen en kritik etmenlerden biridir. Ayrıca, araştırmalar öğretmen performansı ve i nsan kaynakları arasında güçlü bir ilişki olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Öğretmenlerin bu kritik rolü, öğretmen eğitimine verilen önemi daha da arttırmıştır. Bu çalışmada, karşılaştırmalı durum çalışması deseni ile, Güney Kore, Avusturalya ve Singapur ülkelerinin öğretmen yetiştirme sistemlerinin karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu ülkelerdeki öğrencilerin uluslararası sınavlardaki başarıları oldukça yüksek olup öğretmenler prestijli bir statüye sahiptir. Bu nedenle, bu çalışmada bu üç ülkenin eğitim sitemi, öğretme n yetiştirme programları ve öğretmenlerin mesleki gelişimlerini ve de etkili eğitim modelleri ve başarılarının sebeplerini araştırıp tanımlamak amaçlanmaktadır.
