Investigating the Science Teachers’ Way of Approaching to Students in Instruction

Abstract
Aim of this study is to reveal the factors which effect science teachers’ usage of different approaches for students. For the aim of study face to face interviews have been done with science teachers and a survey which consists of open ended questions are applied to 51 science teachers. Purpose of the survey is to reveal the factors which effect teachers’ approaches to students in instruction. Study results revealed that teachers decide to use different approach methods with respect to students’ characteristics, also teachers use inner motivation factors to reach students who are shy/timid. On the other hand it is also revealed that if teachers believe students are not shy/timid then they tend to use social relations to increase quality of instruction.
Özet
Bu araştırmanın amacı fen bilimleri öğretmenlerinin öğretim ortamlarında öğrenciye yaklaşım biçimlerinin tespit edilmesidir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda 51 fen bilimleri öğretmeni ile yüz yüze görüşmeler yapılmış ve açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan anket uygulanmıştır. Uygulanan anketin amacı öğretmenlerin öğrencilere yaklaşım biçimlerinin belirlenmesi ve bunları belirleyen unsurların açığa çıkarılmasıdır. Araştırma sonucunda fen bilimleri öğretmenlerinin yaklaşım biçimlerini belirlemede öğrenci özelliklerine göre karar verdikleri, çekinen öğrenciler için içsel motivasyon kaynaklarını harekete geçirmeye çalıştıkları diğer öğrenciler içinse sınıf içi yaklaşım tercihlerine göre davrandıkları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Öğretmenlerin utangaçlık/çekingenlik sorununa sahip olmadığını düşündükleri öğrenciler içinse sosyal ilişkileri kullanarak öğretimin kalitesini arttırmaya çalıştıkları tespit edilen bulgular arasındadır.
