Abstract

In this study, the concept of threshold which has an important place in Turkish culture has been discussed with its basic and side meanings and the metaphorical meanings of the word are emphasized by giving examples from the Anatolian area and the Turkish world. The meaning and value of this word in Sufism is discussed and it is tried to explain what is meant by the word threshold in Divan literature. It has been emphasized what the threshold corresponds to in Turkish mythology, and it has been seen that this concept, loaded with different meanings and functions, is able to follow its vitality to the present day in the beliefs and rituals reflected in the daily life of the Turks. Still other examples of faith and other thresholds are given the geography of Turkey living in Anatolia. As a requirement of the belief system around this concept, the threshold should be a place to be abandoned as soon as possible, it is concluded that two separate atmospheres, two different climates, two different worlds, two separate air, two separate. The two separate processes must specify that there is a space between them and that the threshold value is used only for the transition. n this context, in line with the understanding of iye within the Turkish belief and thought system, the concepts of threshold and door are also discussed. Although these practices related to the threshold in Islamic culture do not change, the threshold Hz. It has become the symbol of Ali and his children. This study, which considers the transition periods of life as a threshold, tried to support this point of view with the concepts such as ritual, initiation and maturation which are considered by famous researchers such as Arnold Van Gennep, Mircea Eliade and Victor Turner.
