Abstract

This study analyzes current developments, which take place between March 2003 and nowadays in Iraq within the context of international politics. The location, rich oil reserves, heterogeneous socio-cultural structure and idiosyncratic historical specificities of Iraq are elaborated in order to indicate how global and regional actors are interacting with each other with different expectations. Oil production sharing agreements, which have already been re-arranged according to interests of USA and UK, as well as the new federative structure, which supports basic US interests, are analyzed in order to indicate the solutions and the problems that might be brought out by recent developments.
