Abstract

The diffusion of the oxygen in placental membrane between fetus and mother is being carried out as in pulmoner membrane. Although the right and left atriums are being separated by the atrial septum in adults, the arterial and venous blood in fetus is mixed because the septal development has not been completed. The factors such as the type of the hemoglobine, consantration of hemoglobine, and Bohr effect are crucial for passing the oxygen through tissues. The factors on the transport of oxygen in the fetal and neonatal period, and the changes at lungs and circulation system during pre and postpartum period have been reviewed in this article.
