Short History of Erzurum Veterinary Control Institute and its Existing Position

Abstract

: Epidemical animal diseases had caused important economical losses and therefore they were always prior subjectsin the agenda of governments. Various measures have taken for struggling with these diseases. Veterinary Control Institutesare important establishments on the subjects such as preventive medicine, public health, hygiene, education of public andbreeders, education of civil veterinarians and veterinary clinicians who are in their service areas for veterinary services acrossTurkey. In this study, it is aimed to assess the historical development of Erzurum Veterinary Control Institute and its positionat present. Erzurum Veterinary Control Institute archive documents, laboratory registrations, science committee decisions,briefing records presented to relevant Ministry and photographs of Institute were examined, person to person interviewswere done. Books and articles about the subject were scanned. The data were evaluated with retrospective to the methodused in historical researches. As a result, it was concluded that Erzurum Veterinary Control Institute was an importantinstitute for veterinary employments and animal husbandry across Turkey. Therefore, it can be advocated that it will beimportant and necessary that the institution continue its studies in the future too.

Salgın hayvan hastalıkları, tarih boyunca önemli ekonomik kayıplara yol açmıştır ve bu nedenle her zaman devletleringündeminde öncelikli bir konu olmuştur. Bu hastalıklarla mücadele etmek amacıyla çeşitli önlemler alınmıştır. VeterinerKontrol Enstitüleri; hastalıkların teşhis ve kontrolü, koruyucu hekimlik, halk sağlığı, hijyen, halkın ve yetiştiricilerinbilgilendirilmesi, hizmet alanlarındaki serbest veteriner hekimler, kamu veteriner hekimleri ve veteriner sağlıkteknisyenlerinin meslekî eğitimi gibi konularda Türkiyede veteriner hekimliği hizmetleri yönünden önemli kuruluşlardır. Buçalışmada, Erzurum Veteriner Kontrol Enstitüsünün tarihsel gelişiminin ve mevcut durumunun değerlendirilmesiamaçlanmıştır. Erzurum Veteriner Kontrol Enstitüsü arşiv belgeleri, laboratuvar kayıtları, fen kurulu kararları, ilgili Bakanlığasunulan brifing dosyaları ve Kurum fotoğrafları incelenmiş, Kurum personeli ile yüz yüze görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Konuyla ilgilikitap ve makaleler taranmıştır. Elde edilen veriler, tarih araştırmalarında kullanılan retrospektif yöntem ile değerlendirilmiştir.Sonuç olarak, Erzurum Veteriner Kontrol Enstitüsünün veteriner hekimliği hizmetleri ve Türkiye hayvancılığı için önemli birKurum olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
