Postmodern detective story and Pınar Kür’s a murder novel

Abstract

As a result of the modernist and post- modern perspectives, which started with individual tendencies, the sovereignty of the content leaves its place to fictional searches. In the years when a detective novel was newly discovered, it was not considered in the high literature, but around the same period Pınar Kür’s novel Bir Cinayet Romanı (A Murder Novel) was one of the most important examples in our literature with a different fiction. The book, in which the fiction of the crime novel is questioned, includes the syntax of the story. The author, whose Bir Cinayet Romanı (A Murder Nov- el) is totally different from his other novels in both the aspects of content and tech- nique, opens an unusual and a new door to the detective novel type in Turkish litera- ture technically, as well. The purpose of the author is not to add another example to the detective type, but is to show the character- istics, patterns and conventions of this type. In other words, it offers a type of detective novel in which there is murder and a meta- fiction which is written in detective type through this novel. In this context, Bir Cinayet Romanı (A Murder Novel) address- es the mechanism of the murder novel more, even illustrates its anatomy. In this context, it can be evaluated in detective novels, which is considered as one of the detective types and called as “Whodonit”. There is solving a fiction murder in detec- tive novels. However, in Pınar Kür’s novels, this time, it tries to resolve the fictional structure. Therefore, the problem of narra- tive becomes as important as the murder.

Sanatta, bireysel eğilimlerle başlayan modernist ve postmodernist açılımlar sonucunda içeriğin egemenliği yerini kur- gusal arayışlara bırakır. Pınar Kür’ün, polisiye romanın Türk edebiyatında yeni yeni keşfedildiği, yüksek edebiyattan sayıl- madığı yıllarda yazılan Bir Cinayet Romanı adlı romanı yaklaşık aynı dönemde yazılan diğer polisiyelerle birlikte farklı kurgusuyla türün edebiyatımızdaki en önemli örnekle- rindendir. Cinayet romanının kurgusunun sorgulandığı eser yazılış hikâyesini içinde barındırır. Hem içerik hem de teknik açı- dan yazarın diğer romanlarından tamamen farklı olan Bir Cinayet Romanı teknik olarak da Türk edebiyatında polisiye ro- man türüne sıra dışı ve yeni bir kapı ara- lar. Yazarın amacı polisiye türüne bir örnek daha katmak değil, bu türün özellik- lerini, kalıplarını, konvansiyonlarını sergi- lemektir. Bir diğer ifadeyle, hem içinde cinayetin olduğu polisiye türde bir roman, hem de bu roman aracılığıyla polisiye tür üzerine yazılmış bir üst kurmaca sunmak- tadır.
