AHMET HAMDI AKSEKI’S STRUGGLE WITH ANTI-RELIGIOUS MOVEMENTS

Abstract

With the influence of Western thought, the last period of the Ottoman Empire was the scene of great intellectual struggles. Especially after the announcement of the Second Constitutional Monarchy, an important struggle against the rapidly spreading materialist thought has begun. The spiritualism that lies directly opposite this thought has also begun to spread and to be defended by many scholars and thinkers. Ahmet Hamdi Akseki, while trying to understand and explain Islam on the one hand because of materialism becoming effective in the world of Ottoman thought and the reverse of Islamic values, on the other hand he criticized and tried to show the inconsistency of destructive thoughts originating from the West. Our aim in this article is to show that Ahmet Hamdi Akseki is trying to emphasize the importance of religion and how he struggles with the destructive currents of thought of his time.

Özet

Batı düşüncesinin de etkisiyle Osmanlı’nın son dönemi büyük fikri mücadelelere sahne olmuştur. Özellikle II. Meşrutiyet’in ilanından sonra hızla yayılan materyalist düşünceye karşı önemli bir mücadele başlamıştır. Bu düşüncenin tam karşısında konumlanan spiritüalizm de yayılmaya ve birçok âlim ve düşünür tarafından savunulmaya başlanmıştır.Ahmet Hamdi Akseki, materyalizmin Osmanlı düşünce dünyasında etkili hale gelmesi ve İslâmî değerlerin ters yüz edilmesi karşısında, bir yandan İslâm’ı anlamaya ve anlatmaya çabalarken, diğer yandan Batı kaynaklı yıkıcı düşünceleri eleştirmiş ve tutarsızlığını ortaya koymaya çalışmıştır.Bu makaledeki amacımız, Ahmet Hamdi Akseki’nin, dönemindeki din karşıtı yıkıcı düşünce akımlarına karşı ortaya koyduğu mücadeleyi ve söz konusu akımlar karşısında dinin önemine yaptığı vurguyu ve din savunusunu ortaya koymaktır.
