Mosque-based social/religious services for the elderly

Abstract

Aging is a process that can t be avoided, but it has a lot of problems and advantages as is the case in all stages of the life cycle. Today, the mosque-based social services which depend on religious values for the elderly is of utmost importance for them to maintain a significant presence in the World. Because, it is possible to find a solution for the periodic problems of the elderly, especially the loneliness, through the mosque and to set the mosque at the heart of the modern life. Since the rate of aging is increasing in our country periodically, the Presidency of Religious Affairs as the competent authority and its personnel related to the religious services individually have to focus and reconsider the aging issues and the quality of social services. In this study, we tried to draw a framework and analyze what mosque-based social services might contain for the elderly, taking into account the most basic socio-psychological situation and expectations of the elderly. This study data was conducted from Erzurum Palandöken Güneş Mosque with basis of observation and own experience. According to the study, if the religious leaders who lead basic daily prayers (as an active duty) use different methods and are more enthusiastic (as a proactive duty) in terms of solving the most common human and social needs in the context of social/religious services for the elderly in our age, the quality of religious/social services will improve and produce the desired results in the congregation.

Özet

Yaşlılık, önlenemeyen bir süreç olmakla birlikte, her yaşam evresinin içerdiği birçok sorun, beklenti ve avantaja sahip bir dönemi ifade eder. Günümüzde dini değerlere dayanan cami temelli sosyal hizmetler yaşlılar için anlamlı bir dünyada varlıklarını sürdürmeleri adına son derece önemlidir. Çünkü başta yalnızlık olmak üzere pek çok dönemsel sorunun çözümünü cami ortamında bulmak ve bu yolla yaşlılar için camiyi daha fonksiyonel konuma getirmek mümkündür. Bu konuda yetkili kurum olarak Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığının kurumsal olarak ve onun din hizmetleriyle ilgili personelinin de bireysel olarak, ülkemizde giderek artan yaşlılık konusuna ve yaşlılara dönük hizmetlerinin niteliğine yeniden eğilmelerinde yarar görülmektedir. Biz bu çalışmada yaşlılar için cami temelli sosyal hizmetlere, yaşlıların en temel sosyo-psikolojik durum tahlillerini ve beklentilerini gözönüne alarak bir katkı yapmaya çalıştık. Bu çalışma Erzurum Palandöken Güneş Camiinden gözlem ve şahsi tecrübelere dayalı olarak elde edilen verilerle yürütülmüştür. Buna göre normal cami içi din hizmetlerini yürüten din görevlilerinin (aktif görev) çağımızda en çok karşılaşılan insani ve sosyal ihtiyaçlara cevap bulmak adına yaşlılara karşı sosyal hizmet bağlamında daha gayretli ve farklı yöntemleri kullanmalarının (proaktif görev), din hizmetlerinin kalitesini artıracağı gibi cemaatte de istenilen sonuçları ortaya çıkaracağı düşünülmektedir.
