Social support and coping with the stress in hemodialysis patients

Abstract

This study was carried out as correlational descriptive design to determine the relationship between social support and the styles of coping with, and the style of coping with the stress of hemodialysis patients. The study was carried out on 130 patients in 3 hemodialysis units in Erzurum between December 2003 - February 2004. In collection of the data, question form containing informative features of the patients and Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale and Coping with Stress Scale, were used. Of the patients included in the study content, 45.6% of them was female, 54.4% of them was male. Most of the patients (41.2%) were over 50 years old. Bu çalışma hemodiyaliz hastalarının kullandıkları stresle başa çıkma tarzlarını ve başa çıkma tarzları ile sosyal destek arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemek amacıyla ilişki arayıcı tanımlayıcı olarak yapılmıştır. Araştırma Erzurum da bulunan 3 hemodiyaliz ünitesinde 2 Aralık 2003- 25 Şubat 2004 tarihleri arasında 130 hasta üzerinde yapılmıştır. Verilerin toplanmasında hastaların tanıtıcı özelliklerini içeren soru formu, Stresle Başa Çıkma Tarzları Ölçeği ve Çok Boyutlu Algılanan Sosyal Destek Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamına alınan hastaların % 45.6 ( 62 ) si kadın, % 54.4 ü erkek olup büyük bir çoğunluğu % 41.2 (56) 50 yaş ve üstündedir.
