Abstract
This study was carried out methodologically in the aim of adjusting the term of Selfefficacy Scale in Arthritis (SSA) to our language in order to determine the self-efficacy perception of arthritis patients. The subjects of the study were arthritis patients who were presented to Physical Treatment and Rehabilitation and Immunology departments between May 18 and November 25 in 2005. In addition to them, the arthritis patients who were taken under control at the same departments and meeting the inclusion criteria of the study were also selected as subjects. There was no sample selection method used in the study and totally 132 patients who had the sample group characteristics in a time interval when the researcher was at the departments above; who were selected randomly, and volunteered to participate the study were included in the study. Among them seven patients could not complete the study because of the reasons such as time shortage, pains, unwillingness after the starting the study. The SSA developed by Kate Lorig and coworkers in the USA contains 20 elements. For the content validity of SSA, expert confirmations was taken. It was found that test-repetition test reliability was r=.94, internal consistency Cronbach alpha value was 0.96, total element reliability point was corelasion between . 59 and. 96. The validity and confident levels of the SSA, adjusted from English to Turkish, were found to be high.
