Genital hygiene practices of women who present to a gynecology clinic

Abstract
This research was conducted as a descriptive study for the purpose of determining the genital hygiene practices of women who present to Gynecology Outpatient Clinic which is the center of Denizli. The study population was comprised of 156 patients who presented to the gynecology clinic with complaints of genital infection between the dates of December 1-31, 2005. Sampling was not conducted, all patients who wanted to participate in the study were included for a total of 108 patients (69.2%) in the sample. Data were collected using a sociodemographic data form and "Genital Hygiene Practices Inventory". The data were evaluated with percentage, Kruskal Wallis test and t test.It was determined that 50% of the patients in the research were between 22-28 years old, 66.7% were primary school graduates, and 46.6% lived in detached houses. During their menstrual cycle 21.3% of the patients changed their pads every 10 or more hours and 13% did not use vaginal douches.A statistically significant difference was found in the patients' genital hygiene behavior related to frequency of pad change during menstruation according to their educational level, type of residence, and employment status (p

Bu çalışma, Denizli il merkezindeki bir hastanenin jinekoloji polikliniğine başvuran hastaların genital hijyen davranışlarını belirlemek amacıyla tanımlayıcı olarak yapılmıştır.Çalışmanın evrenini, 1-31 Aralık 2005 tarihleri arasında jinekoloji polikliniğine genital enfeksiyon şikayeti ile başvuran 156 hasta oluşturmuş, örneklem seçimine gidilmeden çalışmaya katılmak isteyen 108 hasta (%69.2) örnekleme alınmıştır. Veriler sosyo-demografik veri formu ve “Genital Hijyen Davranışları Envanteri” ile elde edilmiştir. Veriler; yüzdelik, Kruskal Wallisvaryans analizii ve t testi ile değerlendirilmiştir.Araştırma kapsamındaki hastaların %50’si 22-28 yaşları arasında, %66.7’si ilk öğretim mezunu ve %46.3’ü müstakil evde yaşamaktadır. Hastaların %21.3’ünün adet sırasında ped değiştirme süresini 10 saat ve üzeridir ve, %13’ü vajinal duş yapmamaktadır.
