The effect of parent attitudes on self concept of the adolescents

Abstract

The present study had been conducted to be a “defining” and “relationship researcher” study in order to determine the self concept of the adolescents between the ages of 12-15 and the effect of their parents attitudes in the progress. The research had been done on the students who have been educated in the 6.,7. and 8. classes of the primary schools of Ministry of Education Kağıthane District Directorate of Education and the parents. The samples of the research were 320 children obtaining the research criteria, who have been educated in 4 primary schools selected in lots among the schools of Kağıthane District Directorate of Education and selected according to the numbar determined by the statistic expert and the parents of these children. The students are given both questionnaire forms describing themselves and Self Concept Scale in Children of Piers Harris, also the parents are given both questionnaire forms describing themselves and PARI Family Life and Child Breeding Attitude Scale. When investigated of score that mather taken from under dimension of PARI is high score that taken from “over caring matherhood” (X=49.51±8.42) and “hard discipline” (X=43.04±9.04) father taken from under dimension of PARI is high score that taken from “hard discipline” under dimension (X=44.36±7.59). The values of the adolescent’s self concept was X=58,36±9,95 and it has been realised that the attitudes of the parents are effective on the self concept of the adolescents. According to these results, findings had been negotiated and suggestions had been made.

Bu çalışma 12-15 yaş grubu arasındaki adolesanların benlik kavramını ve benlik kavramının gelişiminde anne-baba tutumlarının etkisini belirlemek amacı ile “tanımlayıcı” ve “ilişki araştırıcı” olarak yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı Kağıthane İlçe Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğüne bağlı ilköğretim okullarının ikinci kademesinde öğrenim gören öğrenci ve bu öğrencilerin anne-babaları oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın örneklemini ise Kağıthane ilçesi Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğüne bağlı kura yöntemi ile belirlenen 4 ilköğretim okulunda öğrenim gören, araştırma kriterlerine uyan ve istatistik uzmanının belirlediği sayıya göre seçilen 320 öğrenci ve bu öğrencilerin anne-babaları oluşturmuştur. Öğrencilere kendilerini tanıtıcı anket formu ve Piers Harris’in Çocuklar için Öz-Kavramı Ölçeği; bu öğrencilerin anne-babalarına kendilerini tanıtıcı anket formu ve PARI Aile Hayatı ve Çocuk Yetiştirme Tutum Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Annelerin ve babaların PARI’nin alt boyutlarından aldıkları puanlar incelendiğinde annelerin “aşırı annelik” (X=49.51±8.42) ve “sıkı disiplin” (X=43.04±9.04); babaların da “sıkı disiplin” (X=44.36±7.59) alt boyut puanlarının yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur. Adolesan-ların benlik kavramı puanları X=58.36±9.95 olup anne-baba tutumlarının adolesanların benlik kavramı üzerinde etkisi olduğu bulunmuştur. Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda bulgular tartışılmış ve öneriler sunulmuştur.
