The performance of removable partial dentures repaired with resin-reinforced fiber splint material in children, preliminary results of a clinical study

Abstract

In this study, the preliminary results from resin removable dentures repaired with resin-reinforced fiber splint material (Splint-It) were presented. Sixteen removable partial dentures (nine lower, seven upper) were prepared for thirteen children selected for this study. The dentures made of heat-cured PMMA acrylic resin were cut into two pieces at the midline. Then, they were repaired with Splint-It and inserted in the mouth of the children. Repaired dentures were evaluated at three and six months and the performance of them was determined. At three months, three lower and two upper removable partial dentures were fractured and at six months, two lower dentures were fractured, too but no failure of upper dentures were observed during this examination period.

Özet

Bu çalışmada, reçine ile güçlendirilmiş fiber splint materyali (Splint-It) kullanılarak çocuk protezlerinin tamirinin ilk klinik sonuçları sunulmuştur. Çalışmaya katılan 13 çocuk hastaya toplam 16 (9 alt, 7 üst) hareketli bölümlü protez hazırlanmıştır. Hazırlanan alt ve üst protezlerin orta hatlarında kırık hattı oluşturulmuş ve daha sonra bu protezler Splint-It kullanılarak tamir edilmiştir. Tamir edilen protezler 3. ve 6. ayda kontrol edilerek tamir materyalinin başarısı değerlendirilmiştir. 3 ay sonra, 3 alt ve 2 üst protezde başarısızlık gözlenirken, 6 ay sonra, 2 alt protezde daha başarısızlık ortaya çıkmış; ancak üst protezlerde herhangi bir başarısızlıkla karşılaşılmamıştır
