Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of blood contamination on the compressive strength and hardness of temporary and permanent luting cements. A total of 120 specimens, 20 specimens (6 mm diameter, 12 mm height) for each dental cement were prepared. Half of samples for each material were contaminated with blood during mixing procedure. The samples of control group were not contaminated with blood. After 24 hours, compressive strength and hardness test (Vickers) were applied. According to the results of the compressive strength test, when control groups and groups have blood contamination were compared, the difference was found to be statistically significant. The results of hardness test showed that blood contamination had decreased the hardness values of luting cements.
