INVESTIGATION OF TEACHER CANDIDATES’ ANXIETY LEVELS ABOUT THE PUBLIC STAFF SELECTION EXAMINATION FOR VARIOUS VARIABLES

ÖĞRETMEN ADAYLARININ KAMU PERSONELİ SEÇME SINAVINA YÖNELİK KAYGI DÜZEYLERİNİN ÇEŞİTLİ DEĞİŞKENLER AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Abstract

In this study, teacher candidates’ anxiety levels about The Public Staff Selection Examination (PSSE) were investigated regarding their genders, the programs they are studying, and the order in which they preferred the programs. “The scale of anxiety about PSSE for teachers”, the validity and reliability of which were established by Karaçanta (2009), was used as the measurement tool. Investigation of teacher candidates’ anxiety levels about PSSE for various variables is the main objective of the study. In line with this main objective, whether their genders, the programs they were studying and the order in which they preferred the programs had an influence on the anxiety levels about PSSE was investigated. The study was carried out in spring semester of 2010-2011 academic years, with participation of 300 students from Elementary Turkish Education, Turkish Language And Literature Education, Elementary Social Sciences Education, Physical Education And Sports, Pre-school Education, and Guidance And Psychological Counseling programs in Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education, Atatürk University. It was found that teacher candidates’ anxiety levels about PSSE differed significantly related to the programs studied. It was determined that the anxiety levels of female students about PSSE were higher compared to the male students’ anxiety levels. It was revealed that the students who were studying a program which was within their first five preferences had higher levels of anxiety about their future and higher levels of total anxiety compared to those whose programs were not within their first five preferences

Özet

Bu çalışmada, öğretmen adaylarının kamu personeli seçme sınavı kaygı düzeyleri cinsiyetlerine, öğrenim gördükleri bölüme ve bölümü tercih sıralarına göre incelenmiştir. Ölçme aracı olarak, Karaçanta (2009) tarafından geçerlik güvenirliği yapılan "Öğretmen Adayları için Kamu Personeli Seçme Sınavı Kaygı Ölçeği" kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın temel amacı, öğretmen adaylarının kamu personeli seçme sınavına yönelik kaygı düzeylerini çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelemektir. Bu temel amaç doğrultusunda, cinsiyet, bölüm ve bölümü tercih etme sıralarının kamu personeli seçme sınavına yönelik kaygılarını etkileyip etkilemediği araştırılmıştır. Çalışma, Atatürk Üniversitesi Kazım Karabekir Eğitim Fakültesi Türkçe Öğretmenliği, Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Öğretmenliği, Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenliği, Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Öğretmenliği, Okul Öncesi Öğretmenliği, Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışmanlık bölümündeki 300 öğrencinin katılımı ile 2010-2011 öğretim yılı bahar döneminde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğretmen adaylarının kamu personeli seçme sınavına yönelik kaygı düzeylerininbölümlere göreanlamlı olarak farklılaştığı bulunmuştur. Kız öğrencilerin, erkek öğrencilere görekamu personeli seçme sınavına yönelik kaygı puanlarının daha yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır.Öğretmen adaylarından kazanmış olduğu bölümü ilk beş tercihi arasında seçenlerin 6 ve daha sonraki tercihlerinde seçenlere göre gelecek kaygısının ve toplam kaygı puanlarının daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir
