About the Isi and Scythians

Abstract

The oldest written information about Scythians is located in the 4th section of the History of Herodotus and here we encounter that administrators of the Scythian are called as Skolot . Due to the lack of materials at such levels, the problem of Scythian cannot be cleared up completely. In order to conclude about Scythian, some scientists only consider archaeological findings, others only take into consideration Herodotus records; therefore, it always leads to keep one side of investigations insufficient. The correct method is to evaluate all the materials at hand together. While this work is being done, as in the example of Scythian, properties of the region and investigations about Turkish history and culture must be examined very well. If a person setting to work is devoid of history formation, results achieved or opinions put forward at times may be absurd.

Özet

İskitlere dair en eski yazılı bilgiler Herodot Tarihinin IV. Bölümünde yer alır ve Herodotta İskit halkının yöneticilerine Skolot dendiğine rastlıyoruz. İşte bu denli az malzeme azlığından dolayı İskit problemi tam manasıyla aydınlığa kavuşturulamıyor. Kimi ilim adamları sırf arkeolojik buluntulardan yola çıkarak kimi sadece Herodottaki kayıtları göz önüne alarak İskitler hususunda sonuca varmaya çalışıyorlar ki, bu da yapılan araştırmaların mutlaka bir ayağının eksik kalmasına yol açıyor. Doğru olan, eldeki malzemenin hepsinin bir arada değerlendirilmesidir. Bu iş yapılırken de İskit örneğinde olduğu üzere, bölgenin özellikleri ile Türk tarihi ve kültürü hakkındaki incelemeler çok iyi tetkik edilmelidir. Eğer bu işe soyunan kişi tarih formasyonundan yoksun ise bazen ulaştığı neticeler veya ileri sürdüğü görüşler gülünç olabilir.
