The effect on the corner joint strength of 2 mm protruding PVC edge band

Abstract
In this study, it has been investigated whether the 2 mm protruding PVC edge band at L-type dowel corner joining with glue and without glue in case-type furniture has an effect on the corner joint strength. Melamine coated medium density fiber board (MDF-lam) and melamine coated particleboard (PB-lam) materials, 2 dowels in each case as fastener component, and thickness of 2 mm PVC edge band were used in the preparation of the test samples. Three kinds of experimental groups were prepared in such a way that the control (without edge band), PVC edge band, and 2 mm protruding PVC edge band. These test samples were subjected to tensile and compression testing. The bending moment values obtained were statistically analyzed by variance analysis. According to the results, it was determined that the use of 2 mm protruding PVC edge band had higher bending moment values in 10-23% of the others.
Özet
Bu çalışmada kabin tipi mobilyalarda tutkallı ve tutkalsız L tipi kavelalı köşe birleştirmelerde 2 mmkalınlığındaki PVC kenar bandının 2 mm çıkıntılı olmasının köşe birleştirme direnci üzerine etkisininolup olmadığı araştırılmıştır. Deney örneklerinin hazırlanmasında melamin kaplı orta yoğunlukta liflevha (MDF-lam) ve melamin kaplı yonga levha (YL-lam) malzemeler, birleştirme elemanı olarak herbir örnekte 2’şer adet kavela ve 2 mm kalınlığında PVC kenar bandı kullanılmıştır. Kontrol (kenarbantsız), PVC kenar bantlı ve 2 mm çıkıntılı PVC kenar bantlı deney grubu olmak üzere 3 çeşit deneygrubu hazırlanmıştır. Bu deney örnekleri, çekme ve basınç testine tabi tutulmuşlardır. Elde edileneğilme moment değerleri, varyans analizi yardımıyla istatistiksel anlamda değerlendirmeye tabitutulmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, PVC kenar bandının 2 mm çıkıntılı olacak şekildekullanılmasının diğerlerinden %10-23 oranlarında daha yüksek eğilme moment değerine sahip olduğubelirlenmiştir.
