Abstract

The landscape theme that occurs through an imitation of nature, rather than a painterly explication, forms the inception of Turkish painting. Landscape views, especially paintings of forests, are the most common subjects of the painters who produced the first samples of painting art. Each of the Turkish painters who were trained in the same way and grew up in the same social frame of mind performed the landscape theme. Şeker Ahmed Pasha also performed the same theme a number of times. What makes him unique even though his subject is the same as his contemporaries? Why did he produce landscape paintings even though he received a classical and mostly orientalist education? This study aspires to answer the points in question, emphasizing the style of Şeker Ahmed Pasha.
