EVALUATION OF NEW BUILDING DESIGNS WITH MUSEUM FUNCTIONS IN HISTORIC ENVIRONMENTS

TARİHİ ÇEVREDE YENİ YAPI TASARIMININ MÜZE İŞLEVİ ÖZELİNDE DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Abstract

Social, economic, and cultural changes, changing necessities, population growth and such various factors necessitated the construction of new buildings in historic environments and became a constantly discussed subject since the appearance of conservation issue. Especially, construction of new buildings inappropriate to existing historic fabric destroyed those environments to a great extent, causing the existing values to be in danger of disappearance. As a result, international charters, declarations, principles and standards were published related to new buildings in historic environments. This research, evaluated in total five museums constructed in historic environments from Turkey, USA, and Europe according to the criteria determined by means of those international charters, declarations, principles and standards by designating the design methods of new buildings in historic environments. In those standards, new design principles in historic fabric have been investigated and by evaluating the criteria determined with their related articles, it is aimed to determine the consistency of new museum buildings to those criteria, all constructed in historic fabric, and selected from different regions. In analyzed museums, it is determined that emulation of traditional, respectful and contrasting approaches has been used as new building design methods in historic environments. In all three approaches, it is observed that, new designs could be reflected accurately and precisely, and the sustainability of the historic fabric could be provided successfully. In addition, it is revealed that original designs have emerged supporting the values of historic fabric guided by preservation principles, and by evaluating the case studies, selected from different regions, it is also revealed that a universal language exists in terms of historic preservation.

Özet

Sosyal, ekonomik ve kültürel değişimler, değişen ihtiyaçlar, nüfus artışı gibi etkenler tarihi çevrede yeniyapıların yapılmasını zorunlu kılmış, korumacılık olgusunun ortaya çıkışından bu yana tartışılan bir konuolmuştur. Özellikle mevcut dokuyla uygunsuz yeni yapı tasarımı tarihi çevreyi fazlaca tahrip etmiş,mevcut değerler yok olma tehlikesiyle karşı karşıya kalmıştır. Bu nedenle tarihi çevrede yeni yapıkonusunda uluslararası tüzükler, bildirgeler, ilkeler standartlar yayınlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada, Türkiye, ABDve Avrupa’dan toplam beş adet tarihi çevrede yapılan yeni müze yapısı; tarihi çevrede yeni yapı tasarımyöntemi belirlenerek uluslararası tüzük, bildirge, ilke ve standartlar doğrultusunda belirlenen kriterleregöre değerlendirilmiştir. Bahse konu standartlarda tarihi çevrede yeni yapı ilkeleri araştırılmış ve ilgilimaddeler üzerinden belirlenen kriterlerin değerlendirilmesiyle farklı bölgelerden seçilen tarihi çevrelerdebulunan müzelerin bu kriterlere uygunluğunun tespiti amaçlanmıştır. İncelenen müze yapılarında tarihiçevrede yeni yapı tasarım yaklaşımı olarak geleneksele öykünme, saygılı yaklaşım ve aykırı yaklaşımyöntemlerinin kullanıldığı belirlenmiştir. Her üç yaklaşımla da yeni tasarımların kesin ve açık bir şekildeifade edilebildiği ve tarihi çevrenin sürdürülebilirliğinin başarı ile sağlandığı gözlenmiştir. Ayrıca, korumailkelerinin yol göstericiliğinde tarihi çevrenin değerini destekleyen özgün tasarımların ortaya çıktığı vefarklı bölgelerden seçilen yapıların değerlendirilmesi ile tarihi koruma açısından evrensel bir ortak dilinvar olduğu da ortaya konulmuştur.
