Usage architectural motifs in Ottoman metal works

Abstract

In Turkish metal working, the influence of periods and artistic environments caused a variety oj motifs to be used. Among them, a particular group oj motifs catch our attention with the architectural elements. With these elements in columns and arches form, the most important development in the usage of architectural motifs took place in the Ottoman period. Although these motifs were widely used in the different art branches, there are only a few examples in metal working. The columns, arches and architectural forms in the metal works in 18th and 19th century were used to enrich the ornaments. In conclusion, architectural motifs were stylized and used on the Turkish metal works where the ornament was the main focus.

Özet

Türk Maden işlemeciliğinde sanat çevresi ve dönemlerin etkisiyle farklı motifler kullanılmıştır. Bu motifler arasındaki bir grup, mimari motifleri içeren düzenlemeleriyle ilgi çekmektedir. Bu mimari unsurlar sütun ve kemer şeklinde olmakla birlikte, mimarlık motiflerinin kullanımındaki asıl gelişme, Osmanlılar Dönemi'nde olmuştur. Bu motifler farklı sanat dallarında yaygın kullanılmakla beraber, maden işlemeciliğinde ancak belirli eserlerde karşımıza çıkmaktadır. 18. ve 19. yüzyıllarda madenî eserlerde gönden sütun, kemer dizisi ve mimari yapılar, süslemeyi zenginleştirici unsurlar olarak yer almışlardır. Sonuç olarak mimari motifler, maden işlemeciliğinde süslemenin esas olduğu görünümler için stilize edilmişler ve kullanılmışlardır.
