Abstract
The site of Yumuktepe is located at the edge of the Çukurova plain (Cilicia) and has always acted from both the historical and cultural point of view as a bridge between Syria, Cyprus, Western and Central Anatolia. Its long and uninterrupted stratigraphy (from 7000 BC to 1200 AD) has allowed to reconstruct the developments of the agricultural activities, dietary habits and climate changes from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages. The archaeobothanical analyses carried out at the site show a growing consumption of free fruits and a progressive enrichment of the diet (olives and grapes) since the Chalcolithic period. What is more, the combination of macrobothanical and spatial analyses has also allowed to recognise the specific function of some architectural structures dated to the Neolithic period.
