GODDESS HECATE AND CULT OF HECATE IN MODERN CULTURE

Abstract

There is a common opinion about passing through islands from Anatolia to Hellas of progressing Mother Goddess figure in Anatolia that cont qua Hecate cult. Hecate has came to the fore as a Greek s goddess that origin Anatolia. First information about characteristic features of Hecate is in monument that named Theogonia of Hesiodos. Adoring goddess is seening that gradually growing up hence 7. century B.C. along with that piece. A number of changes was occured in Hecate s typical character within historical duration. Goddess endowed kindness to hunters, warriors and the people who is pray to herself in the beginning. But she was mentioned as protector goddess of witches, wizards and various aliens in rising times. Goddess was related with the underworld and ghouls. Even there is a common idea anent that taking a walk in intersections with after dogs and ghosts. People are getting more and more curious about Paganism recently and want to learn more information about it. Thus, Hecate, who used to be an important Mother Goddess , is regaining her ancient value given by the people of the time. Today the number of the rituals that have been dedicated in the name of Hecate is increasing, which, thus, shows that the interest in Hecate is steadily increasing all around the world. However, Hecate of today is far more different from it used to be in her age and she is turning into being something which she was not indeed. Unfortunately, Hecate of the modern culture is nothing to do with the real image of Hecate.

Özet

Anadoluda gelişim gösteren Ana Tanrşça figürünün bir devamş niteliğinde olan Hekate Kültünün, Anadoludan Ege Adalarş yoluyla Hellasa geçtiğine dair yaygşn bir düşünce bulunmaktadşr. Anadolu kökenli bir Hellen tanrşçasş olarak ün salan Hekatenin karakteristik özelliklerine dair ilk bilgiler Hesiodosun Theogonia adlş eserinde yer almaktadşr. Bu eserle birlikte M.Ö. 7. yüzyşldan itibaren tanrşçaya olan tapşnşmşn giderek yaygşnlaştşğş görülmektedir. Tarihsel süreç içerisinde Hekatenin karakteristik yapşsşnda birtakşm değişimlerin meydana geldiği görülmektedir. Başlangşçta avcşlara, savaşçşlara ve kendisine dua eden insanlara iyilik bahşeden tanrşça, ilerleyen dönemlerde cadşlarşn, büyücülerin ve çeşitli yaratşklarşn koruyucu ilahesi olarak anşlmaya başlamşştşr. Yeraltş dünyasş ve kötü ruhlarla ilişkilendirilen tanrşçanşn peşindeki köpekler ve hayaletlerle birlikte kavşaklarda dolaştşğşna dair yaygşn bir inanşş bulunmaktadşr. Paganizme olan merak ve inanşş gitgide artarak günümüzde yeniden kşpşrdanmaya başlamşş ve kendine sayşsş azşmsanmayacak derecede yandaş bulmuştur. Paganizm günümüzde rağbet görmeye başlayşnca da Hekate yeniden önemli bir tanrşça haline gelmiştir. Ancak modern kültürde orijinaliyle pek de alakasş olmayan bir Hekate imgesi yaratşlmşş ve gerçek kökenlerinden oldukça uzaklaşşlmşştşr. Çağşmşzda dünyanşn çeşitli yerlerinde Hekate adşna yapşlan ritüellerin yaygşnlşk kazanmasş, tanrşçaya olan merak ve inanşşşn giderek arttşğşnş göstermektedir.
