BYZANTINE MONASTERIES IN THE CONTEXT OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THEOLOGY, LITURGY AND ICONOGRAPHY

Abstract

The political and the social existence of the Byzantine Empire was substantially related with Orthodox theology and liturgy. The iconography of the Byzantine religious objects and the decoration of the churches were connected with Orthodox theology and liturgy. Byzantine monasteries, as being the centers which shape the theology and the liturgy and as being the production centers and/or donors of the religious buildings and objects, affected the typology and the iconography of the Byzantine art.

Siyasi ve toplumsal varlığını dine özgüleyen Bizans İmparatorluğunun temelini oluşturan Ortodoks teolojisi ve teolojiyle bağlantılı ayinler bütünü olarak liturji, Bizans dini sanatı örneklerinin ikonografisiyle ilişkilidir. Bizans manastırları ise teolojinin ve teolojiyle etkileşim içindeki dini liturjinin biçimlendiği merkezler olmalarının yanı sıra, kullanıcısı oldukları dini yapıların ve dini işlevli objelerin kimi zaman üretim merkezleri kimi zaman da banileri olarak tipolojilerini ve ikonografilerini etkilemişlerdir.
