Abstract
The evidences for the sports and the athletic events had been documented in both eastern and western societies since the early times. The first evidences in Egypt had been dated to 3000 BC. Then, the sports that moved to Hellas through Ionia Islands and there placed distinctively in the education, were an element of society. Roman administrators realized that the sports had a great effect on the people, and so that it became a part of the universal culture.

Spor ve sportif etkinliklere yönelik belgeler erken tarihlerden itibaren, hem Doğu hem de Batı toplumlarında görülmektedir. İlk belgeler İ.Ö. 3000 yıllarından Mısırda karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Ege Adaları aracılığıyla Kıta Hellasa taşınan spor, eğitimde sağlam bir yer edinerek, toplum yaşamında vazgeçilmez bir konum kazanmıştır. Romalı yöneticiler de sporun halklar üzerindeki etkisini fark etmişler ve böylece spor evrensel kültürün bir parçası olmuştur.
