DAMATRYS PALACE VAULTED BUILDING RESTORATION PROJECT

Abstract

The aim of this study is to prepare survey, restitution and restoration projects with the remains of the Damatrys Palace which is located in Eyüp Sultan Neighborhood, in Sancaktepe to make historical documentations for examination and to compare it with other similar Byzantine Palaces. The preparation of the survey has begun with the measured drawings of the structure in its recent state, using total station. After then, the plan of the structure and its historic layer and facade drawings were made on the computer media, analysis of the materials were done and their documentations are completed. The restitution of the Damatrys Palace has done according to the recent remainings and written sources, and after then the restoration projects for the protection of the structure have begun to be prepared. The Damatrys Palace has mentioned as a summer palace or cottage palace in various sources. Because of that, searches about similar cottage palaces and other palaces of the Byzantine period have done. In the light of these studies the over building around the Damatrys Palace and surviving the remainings from the destructure effects of the traffic of the K z lay Street that passes near the remainings of the palace and what can be done for the reuse of the palace as an archaeological heritage have suggested.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, İstanbul Sancaktepede yer alan Damatris Sarayının rölöve, restitüsyon ve restorasyon projelerini ele alırken, tarihi bilgiler ışığında yapı kalıntılarını analiz etmek ve di¤er Bizans sarayları ile karşılaştırmaktır. Saray kompleksi içerisinde yer alan Tonozlu Yapı üzerinde gerçekleştirilen kapsamlı rölöve - belgeleme sürecinin ardından, anılan yapının restitüsyonu mevcut yapı kalıntı- ları ve yazılı çizili belgeler kullanılarak yapılmış, böylelikle restorasyon aşaması için gerekli veriler toplanmıştır. Damatris Sarayı pek çok kaynakta Bizans Dönemine tarihlenen yazlık bir saray olarak anılmaktadır. Bu nedenle, belirtilen dönemin diğer saray yapıları ile ilgili kapsamlı araştırmalar yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bilgiler ışığında Bizans Döneminden günümüze ulaşan nadir saray yapılarından biri olan Damatris Sarayının, arkeolojik de¤eri korunarak restore edilmesi hedeşenmektedir.
