Abstract

During the excavations at Hac lar Büyük Höyük part of an impressive Early Bronze Age I defence system consisting of small adjacent rooms (casemates), and including a section that was probably one of the city gates, was uncovered. By the end of the 2013 season, the number of adjacent casemates uncovered in the 150 metre long excavated section had reached twenty five. The quality and variety of the pottery and also the idols, stamp seals, bronze pins, awls and blades found inside this sturdy defence system and in the excavations area show that the EBA I settlement was rich and well developed. The area of the EBA I settlement uncovered during the 2011 2013 seasons will be more extensively investigated and an attempt will be made to discover the characteristics of this period that is virtually unknown in Western Anatolia.
