Abstract
In the 2015 season work was concentrated in trench A-B (A-BA), which had been opened up on the highest point of the höyük in earlier years, and in the Western Slope Trench (BYA). In order to study the architectural remains of the EBA I settlement in the middle of Trench A-BA in more detail, the central and northern sections of this trench were dug down deeper and the foundations of a EBA I building group consisting of at least three rooms and, at the northern end, a long narrow free standing rectangular building were uncovered. At the southern end of BYA, the external walls of the G 14 casemate that were uncovered in the previous season were followed and it was established that the zigzag shaped defence wall system continued in a southern direction. As a result of work carried out at the northern end of the same trench, a 40 m long section was uncovered (the Northern Slope Trench - KYA) and it was determined that the defence system in this new area continued in the same way. By the end of the 2015 excavation season, the total length of the saw edged defence system with casemates had reached 220 m.The HBH excavations have yielded very significant results, especially in the areas of the characteristics of EBA I architecture and small finds. This means that our knowledge of the earliest period of EBA in the region, which until recently was virtually unknown, has greatly increased. The defence architecture characteristics in particular provide remarkable insights that are significant not only for this region but for Anatolia as whole. The HBH excavations are also very important in that they are helping to provide a framework for a more accurate evaluation of the large number of small finds, especially pottery, that have been uncovered in excavations or found in other ways in inner Western Anatolia since the first half of the last century.
