Abstract
The aim of this study is to identify the iconographic themes of the Deesis scene and evaluate the scene according to the Byzantine theology and liturgy. Different iconographic themes have been identified across the Deesis scenes, showing a progressive pattern over centuries. In addition to prayer and salvation, Incarnation, pointing out the Logos, adoration and veneration consist the meaning of the Deesis scene, in which different figures and elements are represented. Presented by the Church to the faithful Christian, Deesis is the divine scheme of salvation, through the intercession of holy figures established in hierarchical principles. The Christian faithful addresses his prayers to God through the intercession of holy figures and comply with the established scheme for salvation.
Özet
Çalışmanın amacı, Bizans sanatında Deesis sahnesinin ikonografik temalarını belirlemek, Bizans teolojisi ve liturjisi doğrultusunda sahneyi değerlendirmektir1. Yüzyıllar içinde ikonografik gelişim gösteren Deesis sahnelerinde çeşitli ikonografik temalar saptanmıştır. Farklı figür ve unsurların yer alabildiği Deesis sahnesinde, dua etme ve şefaatte bulunmanın yanı sıra, İsa'nın enkarnasyonuna ve "söz"e şahit olma ile yüceltme ve tapınma anlamları da bulunmaktadır. Deesis, Kilise'nin hiyerarşik bir düzende belirlediği kutsal figürler aracılığıyla insanoğlunun kurtuluşu için inananlara sunduğu kutsal yoldur. Hıristiyan, Tanrı'ya kutsal figürler aracılığıyla dua etmekte, kurtuluş için belirlenmiş kutsal yolu izlemektedir.
