Abstract
Ornaments play an important role among the works that human beings create on the path of civilization that they have climbed through the ages. The desire to reach beauty, and perhaps religious thoughts, which increase parallel to the development of man, has been a decisive factor in the emergence of ornoments. The preliminary traces of the tradition of jewelry that goes down to the root of the Paleolithic Age are extremely important in that it shows that this desire exists also in the societies before the transition to the notion of residence and property. An important part of the jewelery is emerged to the need to reach the fairy, to look beautiful, and some of the requirements related to the dressing that develops in parallel to the world of thought. Fibulaes are jewelry to produce a more secure attachment of clothes that can be compared with today’s safety pins. The fibulaes that we will examine in the study are named as Phrygian type based on the priority production center. The Phrygians, who are the most important fibula producer of Iron Age Anatolia, exported their manufactured fibulaes to foreign markets. The Phrygian type fibulaes, which have been particularly popular in Western Anatolia, Aegean islands and Greece, have gradually become out of their functional aim and became a luxurious element and turned into a cult object. In our study, a group of Phrygian fibulaes from Aydın Archaeological Museum examined. They have dated to c. 8-7 BC. Nine of the 10 fibulaes are bronze and only one is silver.
