Abstract

Archaeological excavations in Tenedos, west of the Troad, are limited to the necropolis area in the east of the city. In this area, significant archaeological finds were obtained about the ancient history of Tenedos during the rescue excavations in 1959 and later. The graves in the Tenedos necropolis are dated to between the Bronze Age and the Hellenistic Age. In this article, two examples of gray ceramics intensively uncovered in the graves are considered. The most important difference of these gray wares composed of amphoriskos and oinchoe is the applique snake figures on them. Here, we focus on the iconographic interpretations and dating of the snakes on the vessels.
