Abstract

The research in the Isaura ancient city and its surroundings reveals that Hellenistic and Romanceramics reflect the fashion of the era and besides, local motifs were preferred as well, going beyondthe boundaries of the fashion at that time. The exterior surfaces (lip, neck and body) of the ceramics in this study were decorated with the stamp molds prepared. From the late Hellenistic periodto the late Roman period, the stamp decoration technique was used in the ancient city of Isauraand its surroundings. While the motifs used in stamp modls/apparatus show unity in the ancientsettlement, differences between the cities become evident. We are encountering similar ones in thestamp-decorated ceramics found in Isaura (Zengibar Castle), Astra/Tamaşalık (Bolat Plateau), OduncuCastle, Çukur Bağ Yel Değirmeni Castle and Çukurbağ Köristanı, in Sagalassos to the west of theregion. Sagalassos is a important red slip and stamp decoration ceramic production center in theRoman period. These ceramics produced in the ancient city of Isaura and surrounding settlementswere also influential in Sagalassos. However, some parts of Sagalassos ceramics differ from the colorof the slip and the profile.
