LULUA/LULUVE MINTED COINS FOUND IN NIĞDE MUSEUM

Abstract

Lulu’a/Lülüve Treasure was found upon the villagers during the road construction works in Gümüş village and Maden village near Niğde province, Ulukışla District. All of the coins are silver and the total number of coins is 352 pieces. As a result of the preliminary studies done by us, five (5) pieces of silver coins with proper condition and cutting of similar structure as period, form and composition order are the subject of our article. It is understood that all coins were minted in the mane of III. Gıyas El-Din Keyhusrev (1264-1282) at a mint -the mint is in a region where the all coins were found- referred as ‘’Mağden-i Lulua’’. Lulu’a / Lülüve is the old name of Ulukışla district, which is located as a port on the important road route connecting Niğde to the Mediterranean region from Hittites to the present day. Due to the fact that the coins examined belong to the Anatolian Seljuk period, research was conducted on the Lulu’a / Lülüve settlement area and castle belonging to this period. Materials, technique, dimensions, weights, composition arrangements, applied writing and transcription of the coins were determined.

Özet

Lulua/Lülüve Definesi Niğde İli, Ulukışla İlçesi, Darboğaz Kasabası yakınlarındaki Gümüş ve Madenköyleri yol yapımı çalışmalarında köylülerce bulunmuştur. Sikkelerin tamamı gümüş olup, toplam sikkesayısı 352 adettir. Tarafımızdan yapılan ön çalışmalar sonucunda dönem, form ve kompozisyon düzeniolarak benzer yapıdaki bu sikkelerden kondisyonu ve kesimi düzgün olan beş (5) adet gümüş sikke,makalemizin konusunu teşkil etmektedir. Sikkelerin tamamının, bulunduğu bölgedeki “Mağden-iLulua” adlı darphanede, III. Gıyas El-Din Keyhusrev (1264-1282) adına darp edildiği anlaşılmaktadır.Lulua/Lülüve Hititlerden günümüze Niğde’yi Akdeniz bölgesine bağlayan önemli yol güzergahında,bağlantı noktası olarak konumlanan, Ulukışla İlçesi'nin eski ismidir. İncelenen sikkelerin, AnadoluSelçuklu Dönemi'ne ait olmasından dolayı, kaynaklardan bu döneme ait Lulu’a/Lülüve yerleşim bölgesive kalesiyle ilgili araştırma yapılmıştır. Sikkelerin malzemeleri, tekniği, boyutları, ağırlıkları, kompozisyondüzenlemeleri, uygulanan yazı ve transkripsiyonu belirlenmiştir.
