Abstract

Greek migrations to Anatolia continued the following centuries by starting in the 14th century BC. The publics who left their countries brought their traditions, languages and religions to Anatolia with them. These peoples who settled in Anatolia communicated with local publics, in some regions they protected their own traditions, culture and religion, in some regions they combined their own characteristics with local characteristics. Local publics have united with their own culture by accepting the culture of these newcomer publics. We clearly see this adoption and change in the field of religion. They identified with the Greek gods with their local gods and worshiped to them. As Greek gods, Artemis and Apollo have an important place among the gods most worshiped. According to Greek mythology, Artemis and Apollon are the children of the chief god Zeus and Leto. Artemis, who represents female powers together with her mother Leto as part of the mother goddess figure, and Apollo, who represents masculine powers, have a special position especially in Western Anatolia. Even though their names or forms vary according to the region and ethnic origin, they are identical in essence, the perception of a twin god who born of female power, came to the forefront but with masculine power. We see that both gods were worshiped together too according as Artemis and Apollo were worshiped separately in ancient cities in Anatolia. The cult centers of Artemis and Apollo were connected eacher other, and this relationship brought their cults closer to each other. Artemis and Apollo are brothers as well as, they have alot of common responsibilities and characteristics that reflect each other. These characteristics, which reflect each other, are the common and at the same time opposite responsibilities of these gods that complement each other. We see the togetherness of Artemis-Apollo cult intensely in the Caria region and later in the ancient cities in Ionia, Pisidia and Lycia regions in Anatolia.
