Abstract

Literary works, especially epics, are written factors that provide the transfer of culture from genera tion into generation. Epics are oral or written products describing the pains, grieves, joys, wars, heroisms and achievements of societies. Homeros has a very important place in the expression ofheroic epics in Greek history. As a product of oral culture, works of Homerus are known as Iliadand Odysseia. The Iliad epic describes the events of the Trojan war between the Achaeans and theTrojans. Odysseia is about the adventures of Odysseus, an Achaean hero returning from the Trojanwar. The gods in Olympos have been a party to the Trojan war described in the Iliad. While personswho support Akha is Hera, Athena, Hermes and Hephaistos, persons who support Trojans is Zeus,Leto (wife of Zeus), Ares and Apollon (son of Zeus), Arthemis and Aphrodite (daughter of Zeus).Among these gods, we see Apollon with her titles in many episodes in both epics. As well as Apollo, the name of his twin brother Artemis is also mentioned in epics. Apollo and Artemis are twins andApollon and Artemis are childrens of Leto (Titan daughter) of Zeus who represent night. In Iliad ofHomeros, Apollon has an interest in Anatolia and for this reason he is a god who hold Trojans. Inthe Iliad, we see god Apollon with Phoibos (Φοίβος, Φοίβω) title mostly. In Odysseia, he has beenmentioned to with this title in two places. The Greeks giving name additionally Phoibos to state theessence of the god. Phoibos, which means bright, appears as an important title of Apollon. In theIliad, It is understood that Phoibos Apollo, the God of Light and Sun, is an Anatolian origin god.Apollo has two great feature: archery and medicine. In the Iliad, Apollon appears with the adjectiveSmintheus alongside Phoibos too. In the text of Homer, which is the oldest source that declared thatthere was a god named Apollo in the Ancient Age, the god is take part in the title of Smintheusand with his Anatolian character; this situation clearly exposes origin and importance of the Apollocult in the region and therefore in Anatolia. In the Iliad and Odysseia, the name of Artemis is notmentioned as much as Apollon. In both epics, hunting and archery characteristics of the goddess isat the forefront too. Also, her beauty and virginity are stated in the verses too.
