Abstract

Purpose: Ligaments which are related to medial and lateral meniscus are evaluated one by one and their locations and occurrence frequency are determined. Methods: In Akdeniz University Medical Faculty Department of Anatomy, twenty amputated knee cadaver were dissected. Results: Posterior meniscofemoral ligaments (PMFL) (of Wrisberg) as found in 16 (% 80) of the knees studied and anterior meniscofemoral ligaments (AMFL) (of Humphrey) was found in 3 (% 15) of the knees studied. In 1 knee (% 5) both PMFL and AMFL were present. Anterior medial meniscofemoral ligament (AMMFL) and anterior lateral meniscofemoral ligament (ALMFL) were not found. Conclusion: The function of meniscofemoral ligaments is uncertain. The meniscofemoral ligaments may function in controlling movement of the menisci especially during rotation of the knee.
