Abstract
Purpose:Urinary Albumin Excretion (UAE) is effected by other risk factors like nondiabetic renal disease, hypertension, obesity, urinary tract infection, febrile disease, heart failure and smoking in diabetic patients. NIDDM patients who have these risk factors are excluded in this study to disclose the relation between UAE and Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) in NIDDM . Methods: Totally, 68 NIDDM patients who applied to our clinic with abovementioned criteria were taken to the study. Patients were divided into 3 groups. Patients with no diabetic retinopathy as Group I, patients with Nonproliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) as Group II and patients with Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) as Group III. Urinary albumin to urinary creatinine ratio (mg albumin / g creatinine) was used for estimation of UAE. Kruskal-Wallis 1-way Anova and Mann-Whitney U tests were performed to determine the relation among diabetic retinopathy, UAE, duration of diabetes, HbA1c levels and lipid levels. Results:There was no difference among HbA1c, T. Cholesterol, Triglyceride, HDL-Cholesterol and LDL-Cholesterol levels of 3 groups (p>0,05). According to the duration of diabetes, significant difference was found among 3 groups (p
