Abstract

Purpose: The cause is not known up to %95 of rises in arterial blood pressure. In this study our purpose was to show insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia in primary hypertensive patients. Also we went to show the relations between zinc and pump activities (Na+/K+ ATPase and Ca+2/Mg+2 ATPase). Methods: Twenty men with primary hypertension and twenty healthy men for control group were taken to the study. The first day, Na/K ATPase, Ca/Mg ATPase and zinc values of all subjects were measured and oral glucose tolerance Test was performed to all of them. The second day, modified insulin suppression test was made to all subjects. Steady state plasma glucose and steady state plasma insulin levels were measured in all subjects. Results: The mean glucose and insulin values of oral glucose tolerance test in 120 minutes in hypertensive group were significantly higher than control group (p0.05). The mean steady state plasma glucose value was significantly higher in hypertensive group(p
