Clinical studies on operative treatment methods of shoulder luxations in dogs and cats

Abstract

This study was performed in dogs and cats of various breed, age and sex, cases of shoulder luxations that were brought to Surgery Department of Veterinary Faculty of Ankara University. In 2 dogs and 1 cat medial, 1 dog cranial, 1 cat lateral luxations, were seen. In first 2 cases, conservative treatments were unsuccessfull, than all cases operative treatment was decided. Anaeshesia was performed using xylazin hydrochlorid and ketamine hydro-chlorure. Operations were performed by attaching a cross surrounded supramide and wire band that passed through a canal produced anterio-posterior, dorsally to the acromion of spine of the scapula and ventral to the tuberculum majus of the humerus. To prevent locomotion of the related joints, velpeau bandages suspending the shoulder were used for 3 weeks.All cases were observed for 6 months and 48 months (mean 22 months). Although in case 5, the wire was detected to snap near the joint, there wasn 't any lameness so that we concluded that all cases were healed functionally.

Özet

Bu çalışma, AÜ Veteriner Fakültesi Cerrahi Anabilim Dalı Klinikle¬rine getirilen çeşitli ırk, yaş ve cinsiyetteki 3 köpek ve 2 kedide gerçekleştirildi. Olgularda 2 köpek ve 1 kedide mediale, 1 köpekte craniale, I kedide de laterale çıkık tespit edildi. Olguların anestezisi xylazin hydrochlorid ve ketamin hidroklorür ile sağlandı. Operasyonlarda spina scapulae'nın acromion'unun üzerinden ve humerus'un tuberculum majus'unun altından önden arkaya açılan delikten geçirilen supramid veya tel ile sekiz şeklinde bağlandı. Hayvanların ilgili ekstremitelerini kullanmamaları için omuzu askıya alan Velpeau bandaj 3 hafta süreyle uygulandı. Olgular ortalama 6-48 ay süreyle (ortalama 22 ay) izlendi. Bu izleme döneminde sadece Olgu 5'de uygulanan tel dikişin ekleme gelen kısmından kopmasının dışında, ekstremiteleriyle ilgili fonksiyonel bir bozukluğa rastlanmadığından, tüm olguların fonksiyonel olarak iyileştiği kabul edildi.
