Comparison of neutralization peroxidase-linked antibody ( NPLA ) assay and serum neutralization ( SN ) test for detection of antibodies to bovine viral diarrhea ( BVD ) virus in cattle sera

Abstract
In this study, 471 serum samples collected from dairy cattle which were housed in govermental and private herds located in Eastern and Southeastern of Anatolia, Turkey were tested for presence of BVD virus neutralizing antibodies with NPLA assay and SN test, respectively. A comparison was made between NPLA assay and SN test for the detection of BVDV neutralizing antibodies in serum samples. Out of 471 serum samples tested, 456 (96.8 %) were positive by the NPLA assay while 373 (79.2 %) were positive by the SN test. 83 (17.6 %) serum specimens detected as seronegative by means of SN test, were found to be seropositive at the end of the NPIJK test. However, 15 (3.18%) serum samples were seronegative for both tests. As a result, NPLA assay was found to be more sensitive and rapid than SN test interms of detection of antibodies against BVD virus.
Özet
Bu çalışmada, Doğu ve Güneydoğu Anadolu bölgesinde kamuya ait işletmelerden ve halk elinde bulunan sığırlardan 471 adet serum örneklendi ve bu serum örneklerinde BVD virus nötralizan antikorlarının tesbiti için Nötraliz.asyon lınmunperoksidaz (NPLA) ve Serum Nötraliz.asyon (SN) testleri uygulandı. NPLA testi ile 456 adet (% 96.8) sığırda s er o pozitiflik saptanırken, aynı hayvanların serum örneklerine uygulanan SN testi sonucunda 373 adet (% 79.2) sığır seropoz.itif olarak tespit edildi. SN testinde seronegatif olarak değerlendirilen 83 adet serum örneği (% 17.6) NPLA testinde seropoz.itif olarak bulundu. Bununla birlikte, 15 adet (%3.18) serum örneği her iki testte de seronegatif olarak saptandı. Sonuç olarak, NPLA testinin BVD virus antikorlarının tesbiti için SN testinden daha duyarlı ve çabuk bir yöntem olduğu kanısına varıldı.
