Lice (Phthiraptera) species in sheep of Niğde region

Abstract

A total of 670 sheep from the vicinity of Niğde, Koyunlu, Sazlıca and Dikilitaş town were examined for the presence of lice (Anoplura and Mallophaga) between October 1996-October 1997. Of 670 sheep, 206 (30.7) sheep were found to be infested. The distribution of 1020 lice collected from these animals was as follows: for Mallophaga 527 (51.6%) Bovicola ovis, for Anoplura 493 (48.3%); 72 (7%) Linognathus ovillus, 421 (41.2%) Lafricanus. The average number of lice per sheep was 4.95. This study is the preliminary in Niğde region.

Özet

Ekim 1996 ve Ekim 1997 tarihleri arasında, Niğde il merkezi, Sazlıca ve Dikilitaş kasabalarında toplam 670 koyun, bit (Mallophaga ve Anoplura) yönünden muayene edilmiş ve 206 (%30.7) tanesi enfeste bulunmuştur. Bu hayvanlardan toplanan 1020 adet bitin türlere göre dağılımlarında 527'sinin (%51.6) Bovicola ovis, 72'sinin (%7.0) Linognathus ovillus, 421'in (%41.2) L. africanus ol-duğu anlaşılmıştır. Enfeste hayvan başına düşen bit sayısı 4.95'dir.
