Abstract

We planned this study to determine whether there was a correlation between the SBP values ge¬nerated from movements of pointer of manometer and Korotokoff sound and systolic arterial blood pressures obtained by pulse oximetry. All patients were monitored with ECG, pulse oximetry (DA TAS-COPE 3000A) and noninvasive blood pressure cuff. The SBP was measured by three techniques: Using the plethismographic waveform of the pulse oxi¬metry, by Korotokoff sound and with oscillometric noninvasive blood pressure equipment. The SBP was measured in the same arm of each patient whi¬le the subject was at rest and in the sitting position with three different techniques. Statistical analysis was done with Pearson-Correlation analysis met¬hod. We determined a good correlation between the values of SBP-Korotokoff and SBP-manometer and SBP-disappearance either sitting or resting position. As a result we suggested that this technique is safe and easy adaptable for patients with Takayasu's syndrome where conventional techniques often fail to monitor SBP.
