Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the color stability of selected resin restorative materials. Two light-activated resin restorative materials were exposed to soluable coffee, coke and nicotine. From each of these materials, 20 specimens were prepared. From the twenty specimens of each group; six specimens were stored in coffee me¬dium, six specimens were stored in coke at 37°C and the other six specimens were applied to nicotine by Kılıçarslan apparatus at 25°C. The working principle of that apparatus is based on the application of the specimens to the cigarette smoke. Besides these eighteen specimens, two specimens were stored deionized wates as a control group. The groups, stored in fluid mediums and deionized water were test¬ed at 6., 12., 24. and 168. hours intervals. The groups that were applied to Kılıçarslan apparatus, on the other hand, were tested after 20,100,150 and 300 cigarettes smoking. Discoloration on the veneering materials was measured by HunterLab SC-500 Spectrocolorimeter a nd t he results were evaluated by CIELAB system. The reason for the preference of the CIELAB system for the measurement of discoloration is that it's suitable also for the mesurements of min¬imum differences. Although all of the specimens' staining had been increased by time, discoloration of Charisma were less than Degufill H. There was no considerable amount of dif¬ference between the initial and the control measurements for all metarials.
